I'm pregnant. Now what?
If you find yourself in an unplanned pregnancy you may be experiencing many emotions at the same time--fear, excitement, embarrassment, anxiety. Perhaps you have had some of these thoughts:
I'm too young.
I'm still in school.
How can I do this and still work?
What will I tell my family?
My boyfriend doesn't want a baby.
I don't have insurance. How will I pay for this?
How will I take care of myself and a baby?
There are answers and help for all of these concerns. You have choices, but in order to make a wise decision you need to know all the facts. There are three available options: parent your child, place your baby for adoption, or abort your baby. Below is a little information on each of these options. Parenting your child
You may decide you want to parent your child. Being a parent is a huge responsibility. It is a 24/7 job. Having a supportive partner and/or family will make this an easier choice. It can be both physically and emotionally difficult to raise a child, especially on your own. However, it can also be extremely rewarding and worth the sacrifices you will have to make. There are programs available to help if this is the path you choose. While it will not be easy, it is even possible for you to finish high school and college.
Placing your baby for adoption
So, what if you are not ready to be a parent? Adoption is a loving option. Many girls and women feel like they can't place their baby for adoption. It would be too hard or sad. It is true, placing your baby for adoption can be a very difficult decision to make. However, those who make this choice can be sure that their baby is well cared for, safe, and loved. There are two types of adoptions available, open or closed. In an open adoption you can maintain contact with your baby, exchange photos, and receive updates. In a closed adoption, you choose to have no further contact and your baby will not know you. In either case, you can choose the adoptive parents or allow the agency to do this for you. Many agencies have funds available to pay for your medical expenses and some of your living expenses while you are pregnant should you choose to lovingly place your baby for adoption.
Aborting your baby
The third option is abortion. Often times a girl in a crisis pregnancy feels pressured by her boyfriend or family to abort her baby. This may feel like the easy way out, thinking that no one will have to know, and that you can get on with your life, things can get back to normal. Slow down for a moment and think this choice through very carefully. Abortion is final. This is a choice you can never take back. Make sure you have all the information before you make this decision. Abortion is a medical procedure and there are both immediate and long term risks involved, such as infection, infertility, and long term depression. We can explain the various abortion procedures and all the risks involved.
